The future of satellite offices

// insights

Long before the pandemic, Knightec had introduced teleworking in the form of various satellite offices. Today, the phenomenon is a well-proven form of work that has expanded within the company.

Emil Holmgren is one of Knightec’s engineers who is currently responsible for one of the satellite teams in Örnsköldsvik. And it was precisely the satellite office that made him choose to come to Knightec three years ago.

“Being given the opportunity to stay in Örnsköldsvik and at the same time be able to work with large international customers was one of the decisive reasons why I applied to Knightec,” says Emil. “The approach enables flexibility, both in terms of work tasks and at the personal level. I think we will see more solutions like this in the future “, he continues. And the benefits are many, not least for the customer.

“There is a direct exchange of skills, where we can contribute our knowledge and expertise. Another great advantage is practicality. We often do not need permanent office spaces for the customer, which frees up space for them. And as I mentioned before, they can search for the right skills for the right assignment without being dependent on the geographical distance “, says Emil.

There are also advantages for the consulting firm in keeping its staff in-house.

“Often, when you work at a consulting agency, you risk losing contact with your colleagues, but with this arrangement, I still have my Knightec colleagues and can have an exchange with them while I work on an exciting international client assignment. We have then had the chance to design a real dream team of about sixteen people who possess unique skills that feel incredibly rewarding and fun”.

Since 2020, workplaces and the way of working have changed. However, the working method of the satellite teams has not changed significantly.

“We are used to working remotely; we did that long before the pandemic, so it is nothing new for us. And I am convinced that this way of working will only increase. We are moving towards becoming even more digital and connected, which will make it easier for more people “, says Emil and continues,

“Because we are not located geographically in the same place as our customer, most communication occurs digitally. My role as responsible is to keep the team together so that it feels attractive both for us who work here and for the customer. I am expected to have close contact and dialogue with everyone to capture their needs and changes”.

The satellite offices complement the traditional consulting business, and the vision is to expand and create more teams around Sweden.

“We are growing; we are a living organism. We want to grow and build all the time on long-term relationships. Our customers invest in us so that we can deliver over time, which means that we are constantly in need of getting the right skills and the right people, Emil concludes.
