The individual leads her own development

Knightec's growth is with engineers, innovators and young talent. Ready to meet the technical needs today and tomorrow. Since its inception, Knightec has been actively working with Employer Branding and the opportunity to make a career in the business.

In a heterogeneous organization with a wide diversity, Knightec works actively to create the opportunity for a personal career within the business. With eleven offices around Sweden, and more than 700 employees, the opportunities for employees to grow within the company are great.

Daniel Sköld, Group Manager is in his ninth year at Knightec. For the past five years he has worked as a leader in Quality & Management. After a master's degree in mechanical engineering from KTH, he took the plunge into working life. He spent the first years at ABB, and then continued his career as a consultant within Knightec. That the choice fell on Knightec had a lot to do with the size of the company.

- I was appealed by the ability to have a greater impact in a smaller company compared to ABB. Decision-making paths and discussions could be kept short and effective, Daniel says.

Daniel works at Knightec's office in Uppsala, and there he is not the only one to have developed and advanced within the company. The office's two other Group Managers, Rebecca Danielson and Mattias Abelsson, also joined Knightec as consultants.

- Through recommendations from an old friend at school, I caught the eye of Knightec, says Rebecca. I was attracted by the strong corporate culture, and for me who had just finished my position at Ikea, a company with similar ambition, it became a positive feeling.

Today it is seven years since she joined Knightec. With a degree as a mechanical engineer and experience from Ikea as a product engineer, she has made a career journey within Knightec.

- I started out as a consultant at the company, she says. I went on to work as Team Leader, a role that developed, and I in it. Since four years back I work as Group Manager in the Technology business area.

It was during my time as Team Leader that I realized that I wanted to work closer to the employees and more with customers, Rebecca continues.

Just like Daniel and Rebecca, Mattias was addressed by the leadership role.

- I think I pretty clearly showed that I was interested in a leadership role, and I have come to realize that I am more of a natural leader than a project manager. When the opportunity came to apply for the position of Group Manager in the Systems business area, it felt like a natural step to take, says Mattias when he talks about his development within the company.

Like Daniel, Mattias has been at Knightec for nine years. Before coming here, he had had time to work as a software developer at a couple of companies after his Master of Science in Engineering from Chalmers, of which a few years in the USA.

- For me, it was brand new to go in as a consultant at a company. Within a consulting company, you can make two parallel career tracks, at the company or within the consulting role. I feel that I have gotten to test both tracks and both are incredibly rewarding and developing, says Mattias, Daniel chimes in:

- Consulting assignments are changing, you try different roles within the same employment, which has felt fresh and challenging. You have a secure base in Knightec and are offered new roles, customers, environments and industries.

What are the advantages of developing within the same company?
- You know your channels, you know who to call if you want an answer to a question, but also security in the knowledge that you don't need to know everything yourself, says Mattias.

For Rebecca, the leadership role at Knightec was not entirely given:

- I dare say that it was not at all obvious to me from the beginning, says Rebecca. I was unsure if I wanted to work with sales which is a big part of the leadership role at Knightec. But that uncertainty proved to be unwarranted, and if I look back on it today, it has felt rewarding and obvious.

Daniel believes that you can benefit from the networks and contacts that the company has succeeded in building up. At the same time, you create a personal relationship with a lot of people.
Everyone who works at Knightec often refers to the special culture at the company – tell us!
- Community is a central part of our corporate culture. We are strong when we trust each other. We strive in the same direction and have fun working together, says Rebecca.

Mattias continues:
- Our work is based on team spirit and enthusiasm. We work hard and have fun in the meantime. Together we build an inclusive working environment that is characterized by diversity and openness and we are always looking for more people who share our attitude and our values.

At Knightec, employees are encouraged to try different roles and try new features, if they wish. There are both development and career opportunities, all the time with support from both colleagues and leaders.

- I have had the opportunity to develop different abilities during my time in the company. Much according to the device ``The individual leads his own development, Knightec supports``. By that, I mean that it starts with yourself, with your goal and how to get there, says Daniel.

At Knightec you have realized the benefits of working in teams, that's where the magic happens and it goes again in everything Knightec does.

- As leaders, we believe in our employees, we engage them and care about them, so that everyone feels important. Your personal development is also important for us. Here at Knightec there are many ways to grow. Your goal, your path and how you get there is up to you, Mattias concludes.
