By having great and capable people around us, we can keep meeting our clients' needs and challenges. People are, and always will be, our most important asset. Knightec has many talented and intelligent individuals, including Patrik Malmenklev, an Advisor with over 20 years of international experience.

Knightec: Thank you, Patrik, for joining us today. We’re eager to explore your wealth of experience in the information security domain and learn more about Cybersecurity’s critical role in improving quality and safety. To kick things off, please share a bit about your background and your journey in the field.

Patrik: Absolutely! I come from a long and diverse background in the information security sector. I’ve had the privilege of working with a global ERP software company and collaborating with leaders in the automotive industry. Despite their apparent differences, both these worlds share common pain points, whether in processes or involving human factors. In my experience, addressing these issues is crucial, regardless of a company’s size.

Knightec: It’s fascinating how seemingly unrelated industries can face similar challenges. Can you delve into your initial approach to information security, particularly your journey from experimenting with computer viruses to your current focus on enhancing security and introducing new solutions?

Patrik: Certainly. My journey began out of curiosity back in the mid-90s when I intentionally infected my own systems with various computer viruses to understand their behavior. This curiosity led me to system administration and, eventually, network-wide operations. Over the last decade, my focus has shifted towards process development and spearheading companywide projects to enhance security and introduce innovative solutions.

My work has extended to the international stage, collaborating with large corporations on initiatives ranging from security awareness education to establishing Security Operation Centers (SOCs) and implementing vulnerability disclosure programs.

Knightec: Your journey showcases your evolution within the field, from hands-on exploration to strategic, high-impact projects. As you’ve worked extensively with diverse companies, could you elaborate on the common pain points you’ve encountered, particularly concerning people’s understanding of Cybersecurity and its impact on quality, safety, and a company’s brand value?

Patrik: Absolutely. When engaging with individuals across various organizations, a recurring problem statement often emerges: the challenge lies with people’s inadequate understanding of how Cybersecurity serves as a vital enabler for quality, safety, and brand protection. In the grand scheme of things, these aspects truly matter.

Knightec: Your insights underscore the human element in Cybersecurity, which is often overlooked. Could you tell us more about how Knightec addresses these challenges and positions itself as a partner and advisor in tackling cybersecurity issues?

Patrik: Knightec is dedicated to aiding our clients in comprehending their unique challenges and taking swift, effective action with our skilled resources. We aim to become the preferred partner and advisor for addressing cybersecurity challenges today and in the future. Our primary goal is to instill a profound understanding of how Cybersecurity positively influences the quality and safety of products and services. If a company values quality, reliability, and safety, Cybersecurity must be a powerful enabler within its strategy.

Knightec: It’s evident that Knightec takes a proactive approach to Cybersecurity. Can you share your thoughts on what a successful solution entails, especially integrating Cybersecurity into an organization’s core values?

Patrik: A successful solution hinges on an organization’s ability to fully comprehend how Cybersecurity directly impacts the quality and safety of its products and services. If these aspects are intrinsic to a company’s core values, then Cybersecurity should be a potent enabler intertwined with its strategic fabric.

Knightec: Your perspective highlights the integration of Cybersecurity into an organization’s culture and values. You mentioned the impact of security awareness education. Could you expand on its transformative effect on the companies you’ve worked with?

Patrik: Most companies I’ve had the privilege to collaborate with have been pleasantly surprised by the transformative power of security awareness education. It serves as the foundation for understanding, eventually leading to concrete changes that enhance the quality and safety of products. I encourage any organization to start with a conversation to discover its unique starting point in this journey.

Knightec: Your experience underlines the potential for profound change through awareness and understanding. In closing, could you reiterate the value of connecting human behavior, security awareness, and the role of Cybersecurity in safeguarding a company’s brand value?

Patrik: I cannot stress enough how essential it is to link human behavior, security awareness, and the broader scope of Cybersecurity to protect a company’s brand value. At Knightec, we’re dedicated to helping organizations identify their starting point in this journey and collectively secure the quality of their products and services. It all begins with that crucial conversation.

Do you want to take the next step in securing your organization’s future? It starts with a conversation, just as Patrik has emphasized.
